Do you ever look around and wonder why everything is so crazy expensive these days? I know I do. This is amplified because I live in Silicon Valley, where it costs $1M to live in a hovel that looks like it was kludged together with cardboard boxes.

But it’s not just that things have gotten a lot more expensive over the years. It’s that we seem to have a penchant for paying ridiculous sums of money to purchase them as well.

Perhaps this is because those at the upper end of the economic spectrum have flourished. Today we have over 20.27 millionaires in the United States and close to 52M worldwide.

So, what are the ridiculously wealthy men and women buying with all their money?

The things we all buy on a regular basis: dogs, haircuts, phones, toilet paper and cakes.

If only.

It turns out the world’s big spenders are turning even these ho-hum purchases into chart-topping affairs.
